Gov Affairs Meeting Tues May 3rd: Puyallup PD Update on Homeless Issues & Pierce Transit VanShare Program Presentation

The Chamber's Government Affairs Committee will meet Tuesday, May 3rd, 7:30-8:30am, at the Chamber office, 323 N. Meridian, Puyallup.

This month's meeting will feature two speakers:

1,  Jeff Bennett, Puyallup Police Dept. community outreach officer, will be speaking about homeless issues; and

2.  Kim McGilvery, Pierce Transit Vanpool Coordinator, will be speaking about alternative transportation opportunities available for local workforce at a discounted cost.

Officer Bennett’s role as an outreach officer deals with helping keep the peace amongst the homeless and concerned citizens.  He will be making a presentation and answering any questions our members might have about local homeless issues.

Kim McGilvery, Vanpool Coordinator for Pierce Transit will also be here to talk about the re-launch of their VanShare program.  It's for commuters who use the train and need that connection either to the train station or from the train to work.  Pierce Transit is working with Sound Transit to have a guarantee parking spot at the Puyallup Station.  Normally the cost would be $145 per month for the van.  Everyone in the VanShare would split this $145.  but in celebration of Pierce Transit's 30th anniversary they are offering the service for $30 a month which is a great incentive to try out the program.

Charla Neuman, President of the South Sound Chamber of Commerce Legislative Coalition will also be reporting on the coalition's activities.

All Chamber members are welcome to attend our Government Affairs Committee and there's coffee and donuts for everyone.  It's a great way to start your day and keep current with local affairs.
